Grand Theft Auto 5 has the potential to be the fastest-selling game of all time, Chart-Track has said.
The market research company has predicted that Rockstar’s new game could topple Call of Duty: Black Ops from the UK top spot.
That game sold two million units in its first week of release, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is currently the top grosser in its debut week, having taken a total of £83 million.
Market research company Chart-Track believes there is a strong chance GTA 5 will surpass both records.
“Many people have forgotten the effect GTA 4 had on the market back in Q2 2008,” MCV quotes Chart-Track director Dorian Bloch as saying.
“It sold just under a million units in its first week – only four Call of Dutys and one FIFA game have done better. More impressive still is the fact that it sold to almost one-third of the entire PS3/360 installed base at that time, in just one week.”
Publisher Take-Two has already announced its intention to break UK sales records with a bumper shipment launch.
GTA 5 released its first gameplay trailer this week.
Grand Theft Auto 5 will arrive on Xbox 360 and PS3 on September 17.
